Incarceration would prove no obstacle for the mirthful meance. Despite Arkham’s efforts to contain him, he viewed it as sort of a revolving door. His crimes vary from the whimsically indifferent to the inhumanly brutal. Joker stole Mxyzptlk’s reality-altering power, remaking the world into a twisted caricature with everyone in it stuck in a loop. Joker entertained himself with murder, such as killing Lex Luthor and devouring China’s entire population. Superman’s powerful will allowed him to fight off Joker’s influence enough to make contact with the weakened Mxyzptlk, who, along with Spectre, encouraged Superman to work out Joker’s weakness before reality was destroyed. As time ran out, Superman realized Joker still could not erase Batman from existence, as Joker totally defines himself by his opposition to the Dark Knight; by this logic, Joker would be incapable of destroying the universe. This broke his control, so Mxyzptlk and the Spectre reconstructed reality from the moment Joker disrupted everything. However, Batman was left broken from experiencing multiple deaths, so Superman had to erase Batman’s memories in order for the Dark Knight to go on.

Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley, a botanist from Seattle, was once an intelligent college student who knew just about everything about plants until her professor conducted experiments upon her, which made her touch deadly and allowed her to produce pheromones that drove men wild. Enraged at the betrayal, Isley suffered violent mood swings and eventually setting roots down in Gotham, where she’d been committed to Arkham on a regular basis as Poison Ivy, who talks to plants, became more plant-like every year, and sought to destroy the entire human race. To this day, she remained a thorn in Batman’s side.

Masquerading as a maid service employee, Selina infiltrated Wayne Manor during a special function dedicated to Harvey. Selina was confronted by Bruce, who informed her the pearls she was stealing belonged to his mother and she can’t have them. Kyle attended a charity gala hosted by Miranda Tate and she attempted to steal from another socialite during a ballroom dance but was interrupted by Wayne, who managed to retrieve his mother’s necklace but not before Kyle stole his valet parking ticket and claimed to the valet she was Wayne’s wife before stealing his Lamborghini. Kyle led Batman to Bane as requested but she betrayed him by locking him within the sewer system drainage area, then witnessed Bane brutally beating Batman while discovering Batman was Wayne. Kyle and Batman pursued Talia’s convoy of Tumblers and took them out one by one until the bomb truck stopped in a crash landing. Seeing no choice, Batman concluded he must use carry the bomb over the bay. Knowing Batman will not survive, Kyle kissed him goodbye before he flew off. Turned out that Kyle and Wayne are living together in Italy, where Alfred sees them together at a cafe in Florence.

Harley was tortured and forcibly inducted into the Suicide Squad by Amanda Waller. She no longer wears face paint; her bleached skin is permanent. She seems to be attracted to Deadshot, as she sees an abusive leader in him just as she saw in Joker. Surprisingly, she did not show any visible reaction upon hearing of Joker’s “death.” Harley’s near brush with death seemed to cure her of her psychosis but she’d probably developed a Multiple Personality Disorder.

No one knows who Joker really is. Little can be confirmed regarding his early life before he turned to a life of crime. Despite his capture, no traces could be found on his fingerprints or dental records. Joker’s testimony seemed contradictory and he was known to lie when describing past events in his life, more specifically how he got the scars of his characteristic smile. One of his anecdotes told of an abusive and alcoholic father, stating that after attacking his mother with a knife, the blade was next turned on the young man. Another story he told stated he had a wife who had her face cut by enforcers of loan sharks. In a desperate effort to assure his wife that he didn’t care about her appearance, he took a razor to his cheeks to produce his smile. It is not revealed to what degree these stories hold truth, if any. It is possible that he himself is unaware of his true origins. Some psychological profiles indicate he is insane to such an extent that he reinvents his own psyche and history on a daily basis. It is therefore possible that, while neither story is true, he genuinely believed them as he told them.

Batman made an exception to his rule and shot Darkseid using the bullet that killed Orion. As Darkseid died, he fired the Omega Sanction, which traps its victim’s soul in a series of alternate lives, each worse than the one before it, at Batman. The Dark Knight was seemingly dead but his consciousness was merely traveling through parallel worlds. Other than Tim, everyone came to believe that Bruce was dead. After having his Robin identity taken by Dick, the new Batman, then given to Damian, Tim took on the identity of Red Robin and began searching for signs of Wayne, who eventually returned.
